Did you know most women's period care products are contaminated with toxic chemicals, dyes, plastics, metals, and sometimes even fragrances? The vagina is considered to be one of the most highly absorbent organs; the lining is relatively thin, allowing for rapid absorption of substances. So when we use those big known name brand products, we are putting these toxic materials and ingredients into our body. But a lot of people don't know the dangers or even know what to look for. Make sure to read the product labeling. Stay away from rayon, which can increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome, polypropylene, which can expose users to harmful chemicals, and polyester, which is a type of plastic and has been proven to increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome. When buying period care products like pads, tampons, liners, and underwear, look for 100% organic cotton, and for menstrual cups, look for 100% medical-grade silicone.
